Immunization

Immunising your whānau Te tuku rongoā āraimate ki tō whānau

All members of a whānau being fully immunised creates a bubble of protection around pēpi (baby), tamariki, kaumātua (older people), and other vulnerable whānau. Your doctor or nurse will be able to tell you which immunisations your whānau are eligible for.

If you are pregnant the whooping cough and flu vaccines are free.

Immunisations your whānau may need

In Aotearoa New Zealand, we have a National Immunisation Schedule. This outlines the free vaccines offered to babies, children, teenagers, and adults at certain times in their life.

Check the schedule to see what immunisations you may need.

National Immunisation Schedule

If your are not sure what immunisations you, or a member of your whānau have had, you can:

  • check their Well Child Tamariki Ora My Health Book (previously called Plunket Book), or

  • Email Runming at nurse@drs123.co.nz

If you are not able to confirm an immunisation, your doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider may advise you to play it safe and get immunised. It’s better to be vaccinated and protected.

Each vaccination on the schedule is timed for the best immune response and protection

The schedule is deliberately spaced to boost immunity. For the best protection against disease, immunise at the recommended times. Not getting immunised on time puts you, and your tamariki, at greater risk of getting a serious disease.

Childhood Vaccinations

All immunisations on the National Immunisation Schedule are free, no matter what your visa or citizenship status is.This includes visitors to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Vaccination are given to children at 6 weeks, 3 months, 5 months, 15 months, 4 years, 11 and 12 years.

Click on this link below which will take you to a page you can add your childs name and date of birth to get a personalised immunisation schedule

Shingles Vaccination

The shingles vaccine is recommended for anyone aged 50 and over. It is free for the 12 months after your 65th birthday. It is also free to some people aged 18 and older in some situations. There is a cost for the shingles vaccine outside this time. $350 per dose.

HPV

The vaccine protects against human papillomavirus — a group of very common viruses that infect about 4 out of 5 people at some time in their lives.

HPV spreads through intimate skin-on-skin contact.
Most of the time you would not know that you have an HPV infection, and they often go away on their own. But sometimes they hang around and can lead to a range of cancers later in life.

Cervical cancer is the most common cancer caused by HPV. The virus can also cause head and neck cancer, and cancer in other parts of the body.

About a third of all HPV cancers affect men. HPV can also cause genital warts.
